Chery Takes Aim at BYD’s Seagull with the Stylish, Sub-$10K QQ Domi

China’s cutthroat electric vehicle (EV) market has a new contender. Chery has officially launched the QQ Domi — a compact electric SUV designed to challenge the dominance of BYD’s top-selling Seagull. With prices starting at just 59,900 yuan (approximately $8,300), the QQ Domi is quite affordable.

Available in two variants, the base model comes with a 28.5 kWh battery offering a CLTC-rated range of 305 km (190 miles), while the extended-range version uses a 39.33 kWh battery and stretches the range to 405 km (251 miles). Even the upgraded model comes in under the $10,000 mark at 69,900 yuan (roughly $9,700), making it one of the most value-packed mini EVs on the market.

Despite its modest size — 3,720 mm long, 1,700 mm wide, and 1,608 mm tall — the QQ Domi is thoughtfully designed. Its exterior is youthful and playful, with smooth curves, LED projector headlights, hidden door handles, and a floating roof effect created by a blacked-out C-pillar. 

Inside, the QQ Domi keeps things minimal yet modern. A wraparound dashboard houses a 7-inch digital driver display and a 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system. In terms of features, it gets voice recognition, keyless entry and start, app-based remote controls, and 40/60 split-folding rear seats.  

Both versions of the QQ Domi are powered by a 40 kW front-mounted motor delivering 110 Nm of torque and a top speed of 100 km/h — perfect for city driving. Fast charging is supported, taking the battery from 30% to 80% in about 30 minutes. The extended-range version gets V2L (vehicle-to-load) capability, allowing you to power small appliances and devices directly from the car.
