Proton Expands EV Strategy for Nepal as e.MAS Lineup Grows and Factory Investment Rises

Following the successful launch of the Proton e.MAS 7 160 kW in Nepal, Proton, through its sole authorized distributor Jagdamba Motors, is preparing to expand its electric vehicle lineup in the Nepali market with the introduction of the e.MAS 5

This expansion is further reinforced by Proton’s performance in its home market of Malaysia, where the automaker recorded a sharp rise in electrified vehicle sales between January and April 2026, delivering more than 11,000 units within a four-month period.

This growth has been supported by a major investment commitment to expand production capacity at its Tanjung Malim facility, aimed at scaling annual EV output to 42,000 units and strengthening its ability to supply export markets.

The Proton e.MAS 7 160kW currently available in Nepal is positioned as a premium electric SUV powered by a 160kW motor with a claimed driving range of up to 475 km under the NEDC cycle.

It features a 360-degree surround view camera, integrated headrest speaker system, advanced driver assistance technologies, and a spacious, modern interior designed around connectivity and comfort.

The model is being offered with additional ownership benefits including one year of insurance, a one-year road tax waiver, a complimentary 7kW home charger, an extended manufacturer warranty, and introductory cash discounts.

The upcoming e.MAS 5 has gained strong traction in Malaysia as a city-focused EV, and is expected to target a wider segment of buyers seeking more accessible electric mobility solutions.

With this planned expansion, Proton’s EV roadmap in Nepal is set to move toward a broader portfolio approach covering both premium and urban electric vehicle segments.
