BAIC BJ30 Hybrid SUV Spotted in Kathmandu Ahead of Nepal Launch
The upcoming BAIC BJ30 Hybrid SUV has been spotted around Kathmandu ahead of its official launch in Nepal, giving a first glimpse of the model before its public debut at the upcoming NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2026.
One of China’s largest automotive manufacturers, BAIC (Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co., Ltd.), is preparing to enter the Nepali passenger vehicle market through Laxmi Motorhub, under Laxmi Group, with the BJ30 set to become the brand’s first passenger vehicle offering in Nepal.
Positioned as a rugged lifestyle hybrid SUV, the BJ30 combines traditional off-road-inspired styling with modern hybrid technology, targeting buyers looking for a versatile SUV capable of handling everyday urban driving as well as weekend adventures.
The arrival of the BJ30 will also mark another major Chinese automotive brand entering Nepal’s increasingly competitive SUV market.
BAIC BJ30: A Rugged Hybrid SUV for Nepal
The BAIC BJ30 follows the brand’s adventure-focused SUV design philosophy, featuring a bold and upright appearance.
The front fascia features BAIC’s signature five-slot grille design, sharp LED headlights and a strong SUV stance. Squared-off wheel arches, a floating roof design, roof rails and 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels add to its rugged character.
At the rear, the SUV gets an upright tailgate design, reinforcing its lifestyle-oriented approach while improving practicality for outdoor use.
Measuring 4,730 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width and 1,790 mm in height, with a 2,820 mm wheelbase, the BJ30 offers generous proportions and a spacious five-seat cabin.
Hybrid Powertrain With All-Wheel Drive Capability
For Nepal, the BAIC BJ30 is expected to be offered with BAIC’s Magic Core DHEV hybrid powertrain.
The system combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with front and rear electric motors, paired with a 2-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). The hybrid system is designed to deliver strong performance while improving fuel efficiency compared to conventional petrol-powered SUVs.
The range-topping all-wheel-drive version produces a combined output of 409 hp and 685 Nm of torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.59 seconds.
The BJ30 comes with multiple driving modes, including Comfort, Economy, Sport and Snow modes, while the intelligent all-wheel-drive version adds Mud, Sand and Wading modes for more challenging conditions. With 215 mm of ground clearance and BAIC’s Intelligent ATS all-terrain control system, the BJ30 is designed to offer additional capability beyond normal road use.
Technology-Focused Interior
Inside, the BJ30 combines a modern cabin layout with adventure-oriented practicality. The dashboard features a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch floating infotainment display powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 automotive chipset.
The interior gets a clean horizontal dashboard design, aircraft-inspired electronic gear selector, crystal-textured drive mode controller and minimalist controls.
The SUV also focuses heavily on practicality. With the rear seats folded, the cargo area extends to 1,902 mm, providing enough space for camping equipment or outdoor gear. The standard roof rack can support loads of up to 300 kg, allowing buyers to carry additional equipment or rooftop camping accessories.
BAIC has also equipped the BJ30 with lifestyle-focused features including vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, projection screen mounting points and a foldable utility table, allowing the SUV to function as a mobile outdoor companion.
BAIC: A Six-Decade Automotive Legacy
While BAIC will be a new name for many Nepali buyers, the company is one of China’s most established automotive manufacturers.
Founded in 1958, BAIC has more than six decades of automotive experience and operates major joint ventures with global manufacturers including Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai. The company produces millions of vehicles annually and has established itself as one of China’s leading automotive groups, particularly in SUVs and new-energy vehicles.
BAIC’s rugged BJ-series SUVs have become popular in China and are widely used across government departments, public service fleets and other institutional applications. In recent years, BAIC has expanded its focus towards hybrid and electric mobility, investing heavily in new-energy vehicle technology.
Laxmi Motorhub is expected to announce the official Nepal-spec variants, pricing and booking details during the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2026, where BAIC will officially introduce itself to Nepali customers.
