The BMW iX2 marks a new direction for the Bavarian automaker in Nepal.
It doesn’t follow the traditional mold of a sedan, nor does it fully commit to the upright posture of a conventional SUV. Instead, it takes the less-traveled path of a coupe-SUV—merging the sleekness of a sports car with the elevated stance of a crossover.It’s a striking design that’s sure to grab attention, especially among buyers who value style and individuality on the road. But is that enough?
Eye-catching design may bring people in, but retaining them takes more—especially when wearing a badge as iconic as BMW’s. In a market that’s becoming more demanding with every new EV launch, the iX2 has to go beyond looks. It needs to feel premium, drive like a true BMW, and deliver the performance, tech, and comfort that today’s buyers expect from a luxury electric vehicle.

So that brings us to the real question—does the iX2 live up to the brand’s legacy? Can it balance its coupe-SUV personality with everyday usability and genuine driving pleasure? Or is it just another stylish entry in an increasingly crowded EV segment? That’s what we’re here to find out.

Exterior
The BMW iX2 eDrive20 looks different—but in a good way. It doesn’t try too hard to scream “EV” like many of its rivals. From the dead front, you might completely miss the coupe silhouette. What grabs your attention instead is the bold and imposing front grille.

Yes, it’s sealed off—as expected in an EV—but unlike most electric cars that trace a subtle outline of where a grille used to be, BMW has gone with a full, sculpted dual kidney grille design that hasn't looked a kidney for years now and then sealed it off, giving the front a strong, muscular identity.

Just below it sits an aggressively styled air dam, flanked by faux vents on either side. All of this—air dam and vents—is finished in piano black. While it may look sharp on day one, piano black is notorious for attracting scratches, dust, and fingerprints, making it difficult to keep looking pristine.

Up top, the bonnet features strong sculpting, with character lines running along both sides, guiding your eyes toward the center-mounted BMW roundel. Move to the side, and the iX2’s coupe-SUV credentials become obvious. The roofline gently tapers toward the rear, giving the vehicle a sleek and sporty stance. It sits on 245/45 Pirelli P ZERO tires wrapped around 19-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels.

The wheel design is classic BMW—clean, dynamic, and athletic. However, the car does appear slightly under-tired, a visual effect caused by the wheel arches being finished in body color instead of contrasting black. This makes the wheel gaps more prominent than they actually are, breaking some of that visual aggression.

At the rear, the iX2 continues the muscular theme. The smooth, frameless rear windshield adds to the coupe appeal, but it comes without a wiper—a decision justified by manufacturers on aerodynamic grounds which we have never liked. Because, in real-world conditions, especially in cities like Kathmandu, it’s not the most practical choice. Not everyone is driving fast enough to rely on airflow to clear the glass.
And who is going to clean the dirt and bird droppings off the rear glass—the designers chasing “aerodynamics and aesthetics,” or the sales staff calling it a bold design move? Unless automakers include someone to wipe it for us, just bring back the rear wiper. Function over form.

That aside, the tail-lights are beautifully crafted, with crisp detailing and a modern light signature. Lower down, the rear bumper features a diffuser-like design and more faux vents—all again finished in that same glossy piano black trim, which, unfortunately, remains a recurring sore point on an otherwise well-designed exterior.

Interior
Step inside the BMW iX2, and you’re greeted with a cabin that feels unmistakably BMW—solid, refined, and built with precision. The materials used throughout are top-notch, with soft-touch surfaces, tactile switches, and an overall fit and finish that speaks to the brand’s premium DNA. It’s a space that immediately feels both luxurious and driver-focused.

Let’s start with the seats. The front ones are electrically adjustable, come with heating and memory functions, and are upholstered in rich Vernasca leather in a beautiful, deep brown tone. They’re generously bolstered, offering excellent back and thigh support, and the arm cushions on the sides hold you snugly during spirited cornering—something driving enthusiasts will appreciate.

The rear bench can seat three adults, but space isn’t exactly generous back there. The coupe-style roofline cuts into headroom slightly, and the large headrests on the front seats further limit the sense of space for rear passengers.

At the center of the tech setup are two high-resolution screens—one serving as the digital instrument cluster and the other as the infotainment display. Both are crisp, responsive, and easy to navigate. Thankfully, BMW hasn’t gone fully touch-only; the central armrest houses a few key physical controls including the drive selector, electronic parking brake, and controls for the 360-degree camera system.

The steering wheel is sporty, chunky, and equipped with well-laid-out physical buttons that feel satisfying to use. Rounding out the premium experience is a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system that delivers rich, immersive sound—perfect for enjoying your playlist on long drives or city commutes.
Performance
Let’s talk numbers. The BMW iX2 eDrive20 is powered by a 66.5 kWh battery pack that delivers 150 kW of power and 250 Nm of instant torque to the rear wheels. This setup propels the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds—and every one of those seconds is genuinely enjoyable. The throttle response is smooth, the acceleration is linear, and the electric drivetrain delivers that addictive EV surge we’ve all come to love.

Within the city, the iX2’s fairly compact footprint, paired with its 360-degree camera and parking sensors, makes urban driving and tight maneuvering feel effortless. Out on the highway, the car’s low ride height and wide track provide a planted and confident stance, translating to a smooth and stable ride at speed.

But where the iX2 eDrive20 truly shines is in the corners. During our review, we tackled twisty roads and came away impressed. The suspension tuning is spot-on—it absorbs poor road surfaces with ease, yet firms up beautifully during spirited driving without ever feeling harsh. The steering, too, is precise and well-weighted, giving you a genuine sense of connection to the road.

Then there are the tires—Pirelli P ZEROs that grip like they’ve got something to prove. We pushed the car hard through corners, even trying to unsettle it deliberately, but the grip and the electronic stability systems worked seamlessly to keep the car glued to the tarmac.

It drives more like a sport sedan than a crossover, which brings us to one of the few criticisms: it needs more power. Based on how well the chassis handles and the confidence it inspires, the iX2 could easily handle a power output closer to 200 or even 300 kW. It’s a car begging for more performance to match its dynamic capabilities.

Verdict
The BMW iX2 eDrive20 comes with a price tag of approximately 1.80 crore (1 crore 79 lakh 96 thousand), and for that money, you’re getting more than just a premium electric car—you’re getting a coupe-SUV that blends style, luxury, and genuine driving engagement in a way few EVs in this segment can. You get a beautifully built cabin finished in top-tier materials, a tech-laden cockpit with BMW’s signature refinement, and most importantly, a chassis that loves corners.

This isn’t just another electric crossover—it’s a corner-attacking machine wrapped in a sleek, coupe-like design. So, is it worth the price? If you’re someone who values design, driving dynamics, and the prestige of the BMW name—paired with the silent punch of electric power—then the iX2 eDrive20 makes a compelling case. It’s not just about going green, it’s about doing it with flair, confidence, and a whole lot of fun.
