MG Unveils Electric MG4X Compact SUV with Semi-Solid Battery Technology

MG has officially revealed images and key details for its all-electric MG4X compact SUV, introducing a new “liquid-solid state” battery system.

Built on the same Modular Scalable Platform as the upcoming second-generation MG4 hatchback, the MG4X shares its 2,750mm wheelbase but gains a slightly larger crossover-style body for added length, width, and height. The MG4X measures 4,395 mm long, 1,842 mm wide, and 1,551 mm tall.

The MG4X will be powered by a 53.95 kWh semi-solid manganese-based lithium-ion battery, capable of delivering a claimed range of 530 km under the CLTC cycle. Charging from 30% to 80% is said to take just 21 minutes.

The crossover adopts a distinct front-end design, including reshaped headlights, a full-width DRL strip, and a broad two-tier grille beneath the bumper, differentiating it from its MG4 hatch sibling.

Inside, MG has partnered with Oppo to develop a smart cockpit system, enabling seamless smartphone integration through a “Hand-Car Interconnection” interface.

Driver assistance technology, developed in collaboration with Horizon Robotics, includes high-speed Navigate on Pilot (NOA) and automated parking features, which MG claims are class-leading for its segment.

The MG4X is expected to enter full production in Q2 2026.
