In an extraordinary feat, an Aprilia SR 160 FI BS6 scooter has successfully reached Gangapurna Lake (3,540 meters) and the remote mountain village of Khangsar (3,756 meters) in Nepal’s Annapurna region—marking the first recorded instance of an Aprilia scooter reaching such high altitudes in the Himalayas.

The route from Besisahar to Manang, which spans roughly 90 kilometers, is considered one of Nepal’s most demanding trails. It includes landslide-prone areas, river crossings, loose gravel, and steep mountain switchbacks.

Despite the challenges, the SR 160 completed the journey, navigating conditions that would usually deter most two-wheelers not designed for off-road use.

The ride not only tested the limits of the machine, but also demonstrated the scooter’s potential far beyond its conventional environment. In doing so, it challenges long-held perceptions that scooters are limited to city streets.

By reaching the high-altitude glacial lake of Gangapurna and continuing on to Khangsar, the SR 160 showcases the evolving capabilities of modern scooters in Nepal’s diverse and rugged riding landscape.

Gangapurna Lake, formed by glacial melt beneath the towering peaks of the Annapurna range, is known for its striking blue waters and isolated setting. Accessing this location on a scooter adds a new chapter to Nepal’s motorcycling narrative—particularly as this marks a first for Aprilia in the region.
