2026 MG4 Revealed with AI Integration and Solid-State Battery Tech

SAIC Motor has taken the wraps off the updated 2026 MG4, ahead of its expected debut at the Beijing Auto Show.

The MG4 retains its familiar shape but sharpens key design elements, featuring slimmer, more angular headlights, a reworked lower front with darker accents, and a subtle blue indicator for driver assistance status.

Its side profile stays largely unchanged with a floating roof design and new 17-inch alloys, while the rear continues with a clean, modern look highlighted by full-width taillights, an integrated spoiler, and a minimal bumper design.

The bigger changes are inside. MG has refreshed the cabin with new colour themes such as Yacht Blue and Midnight Purple, alongside ambient lighting that reacts to music.

The layout itself is more minimal, helped by hidden air vents and a cleaner dashboard structure. A compact 8.8-inch driver display sits behind the wheel, while a larger 15.6-inch 2.5K touchscreen handles most infotainment duties.

What stands out is the introduction of the Doubao 3.0 AI system, which brings more natural voice interaction into the mix. It supports multi-zone voice recognition, meaning passengers in different seats can issue commands at the same time.

The system can control functions ranging from climate settings to the sunroof and media, while also handling general queries. Integration with Oppo smartphones further expands the digital ecosystem inside the car.

The MG4 will come in two battery versions. The standard version remains a pure electric setup, producing 120kW (161hp) and 250Nm, with battery options that deliver up to 530km of range on the CLTC cycle.

Alongside this, a newer liquid-based solid-state battery variant is being introduced, with a claimed starting range of 510km—hinting at MG’s future direction in battery tech.

Comfort is also enhanced with heated, ventilated, and massage-equipped front seats, along with an extendable leg rest for the passenger. The MG4 also adopts a Horizon Robotics-developed L2+ driver assistance system, enabling highway features like assisted overtaking, lane centring, and signal-based lane changes.

Parking tech sees a major upgrade, with expanded automated functions including forward-entry parking, customizable parking modes, adjustable speeds, and the ability to handle tight or dead-end spaces, along with remote smartphone-based parking visualisation.

Charging is another strong point, with support for 3C fast charging enabling a 30 to 80 percent top-up in under 20 minutes. The car also adopts a dual-pinion electric steering system, designed to offer quicker and more precise responses compared to traditional setups.
