Kia India has released a teaser for its upcoming all-electric Carens Clavis MPV, which is scheduled to debut in the Indian market on July 15. This model marks Kia’s first locally developed, mass-market electric vehicle in the country.
In terms of exterior design, the electric Carens Clavis closely mirrors its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart. The most noticeable change is a sealed front fascia, which integrates the charging port, replacing the traditional grille.
Inside, the cabin layout also remains largely consistent with the ICE version. The dashboard continues to feature a 26.62-inch dual panoramic display, seamlessly combining the touchscreen infotainment system with a digital instrument cluster.
However, the centre console has been reworked into a floating design, removing the gear lever to create more storage space. New additions include a wireless charging pad and updated physical controls. The EV version will also offer a seven-seat configuration.
The Carens Clavis EV is expected to share its battery and drivetrain with the Hyundai Creta Electric. Two battery options are likely: a 42 kWh pack offering an ARAI-certified range of 390 km, and a larger 51.4 kWh version capable of 473 km.
As mentioned in the teaser video, the Carens Clavis EV’s claimed range of 490 km probably comes from the larger battery pack, making it 17 km greater than that of the Creta Electric. Powering the vehicle will likely be a 171 hp electric motor delivering 255 Nm of torque to the front wheels, similar to the setup in the Creta Electric.
