Hyundai Ioniq P Compact Electric SUV Expected to Debut in India in January 2027

Hyundai is preparing to expand its electric vehicle portfolio in India with a new compact electric SUV, expected to be called the Ioniq P. The upcoming model will mark the brand’s entry into the more affordable electric SUV segment and is expected to make its debut in January 2027.

The Ioniq nameplate is already associated with Hyundai’s global electric vehicle lineup, which includes models such as the Ioniq 5. If launched under this name, the new compact SUV will become Hyundai’s third electric vehicle in India, following the Ioniq 5 and Creta Electric.

The upcoming electric SUV is expected to use Hyundai-Kia's E-GMP (K) platform, which also underpins the Hyundai Inster EV sold in international markets.

For its powertrain, the Hyundai Ioniq P is expected to share key components with the Kia Syros EV. However, Hyundai has yet to confirm whether the Ioniq P will receive the same battery configurations, motor output or driving range.

In terms of equipment, Hyundai has previously indicated that the compact EV will feature a next-generation infotainment system and Level 2 advanced driver assistance technology (ADAS). The infotainment system could be based on the brand's newer Pleos Connect platform, although this is yet to be confirmed.

The Ioniq P will enter an increasingly competitive compact electric SUV segment in India, going up against the Tata Nexon EV and Kia Syros EV.
