Changan has unveiled its smart driving strategy, dubbed the ‘Dubhe Plan 2.0’, aiming to make driver assistance systems more accessible in affordable models.
As part of this strategy, Changan announced that it would no longer develop non-intelligent vehicles starting this year and plans to launch 35 intelligent vehicle models over the next three years.
Beginning in August, Changan will introduce LiDAR technology in vehicles priced at approximately $13,700, enabling AEB (automatic emergency braking) functionality at speeds of up to 135 km/h. The company aims to achieve full-scenario Level 3 autonomous driving by 2026 and progress to Level 4 by 2028.
Changan's sub-brand Nevo plans to release 10 models over the next three years, including affordable small SUVs, mid-to-large-size SUVs, and MPVs. Meanwhile, its Deepal sub-brand will introduce 10 products, including compact sedans, six-seat SUVs, and new rugged models. The premium Avatr sub-brand is set to launch seven products, such as mid-to-large-size five-seater SUVs, six-seater SUVs, and sedans.
Changan's journey toward vehicle intelligence began with the launch of Dubhe Plan 1.0 in 2018, which successfully equipped all new models with internet connectivity and driver assistance systems by 2020. Viewing Dubhe Plan 2.0 as its third business venture, Changan aims to exceed five million units in total sales by 2030, with four million units under its brands and three million being smart cars.
Meanwhile, Deepal has also launched intelligent driving versions of its existing S07, L07, and S05 models. These enhanced models offer new all-scenario intelligent driving solutions at competitive prices.
Changan's initiatives, alongside BYD's advancements, are expected to accelerate the widespread adoption of intelligent driving systems in more affordable vehicles.
