Following a series of high-profile showcases and growing anticipation among EV enthusiasts, BYD is gearing up to launch two of its most talked-about vehicles in Nepal—the Shark 6 plug-in hybrid pickup and the Sealion 7 all-electric SUV. Both models are expected to launch in Nepal following the announcement of the upcoming fiscal year’s budget.
While the Shark 6 made its first appearance in the country during the BYD Hi-Tech Week held in Kathmandu in February 2025, the Sealion 7 was previously unveiled at the 2024 NADA Auto Show, where it drew significant attention for its design, technology, and performance figures.
The BYD Shark 6, which made its Nepal debut during the BYD Hi-Tech Week in Kathmandu in February 2025, is poised to enter the premium utility segment with a compelling blend of performance and versatility.
Under the hood, the Shark 6 combines a 1.5-liter petrol engine with BYD’s signature Blade Battery and dual electric motors, producing 321 kW of power and 650 Nm of torque. This powertrain enables the pickup to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds, making it one of the quickest in its class.
Inside, the Shark 6 offers a premium and tech-forward cabin. The front seats are heated, ventilated, and electrically adjustable, while the rear seats recline at a comfortable 27-degree angle. The dashboard houses a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster alongside a 15.6-inch rotating adaptive touchscreen, forming the centerpiece of the intelligent cockpit.
Designed for both road presence and rugged use, the Shark 6 measures 5,457 mm in length, 1,971 mm in width, and 1,925 mm in height, with a substantial 3,260 mm wheelbase. It also boasts a 2,500 kg towing capacity, ensuring solid utility for work and adventure alike.
For off-road enthusiasts, the Shark 6 is equipped with a double-wishbone suspension setup on both ends and selectable terrain modes—Mud, Sand, and Snow. Safety and control are enhanced through features such as Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, Vehicle Dynamic Control, and Auto Hold.
Also confirmed to launch after the fiscal budget announcement is the BYD Sealion 7, a premium, fully electric SUV that is based on the BYD Seal sedan.
In Nepal, the Sealion 7 is expected to arrive in two trims: Premium and Performance, both powered by an 82.56 kWh battery. The Performance trim delivers 390 kW and 690 Nm, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, while the Premium trim offers 230 kW and 380 Nm, achieving the same in 6.7 seconds.
According to NEDC testing, the Performance variant offers a range of 542 km, while the Premium variant stretches to 567 km—a notable range for long-distance driving.
The SUV’s elegant and spacious design is underscored by its dimensions: 4,830 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, and 1,620 mm in height, with a generous 2,930 mm wheelbase. Practical storage is available through a 58-liter frunk and a 500-liter boot.
Inside, the Sealion 7 features a futuristic cabin with a four-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel, crystal gear selector, and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen. A massive 50-inch AR Head-Up Display (HUD) projects key information directly onto the windshield for enhanced driver focus.
Adding to its tech appeal is DiPilot 100, BYD’s advanced driver assistance system branded “God’s Eye.” It uses 12 ultrasonic radars, 5 mm-wave radars, and 11 cameras to support L2 driving features such as lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, and intelligent speed control. Fast charging is another highlight, with the Sealion 7 able to charge from 10% to 80% in just 25 minutes.
As Nepal gradually shifts toward electric mobility, vehicles like the Shark 6 and Sealion 7 have the potential to provide compelling, feature-packed options in the hybrid and electric segments.
