Xpeng Unveils 'Iron', a Humanoid Robot Powered by In-House AI

Xpeng turned heads at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show by revealing “Iron,” its first humanoid robot. Standing 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 154 pounds, Iron isn’t just a prototype—it’s already assisting in Xpeng’s own car manufacturing plants.

What sets Iron apart is what’s inside. It runs on Xpeng’s self-developed Turing AI chip, delivering up to 3,000 trillion operations per second (TOPS). The robot features 60 joints for flexible, multi-directional movement, and 22 joints in each hand, enabling it to perform delicate tasks with human-like precision.

Iron is designed to move and interact like a real person. Its walking gait is smooth and natural—far from the jerky, mechanical movement seen in traditional factory robots. It also talks using the same voice tech found in Xpeng’s smart EVs, with a conversational AI system capable of understanding, reasoning, and responding in real time.

Equipped with Xpeng’s “Eagle Eye” vision system, Iron sees the world through high-resolution cameras and a 720-degree sensing field, similar to the perception tech in Xpeng’s self-driving cars. This helps it navigate complex environments and make intelligent decisions on the go.

Iron represents Xpeng’s bigger ambition: merging the worlds of robotics and smart mobility.
