The next-generation BMW iX3 is approaching the final stages of development, with prototypes currently undergoing intensive testing in Miramas, southern France.
This fully electric mid-size SUV will make its global debut at the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich this September, with series production set to begin by the end of the year at BMW’s new plant in Debrecen, Hungary. A launch in Nepal is also confirmed for next year.
The BMW iX3 50 xDrive will be the first production model built on the Neue Klasse platform, marking a major milestone in the brand’s electric transformation. Designed from the ground up as a next-generation electric SUV, it brings together cutting-edge technology, strong performance, and long-range capability.
With a projected range of up to 800 kilometers (WLTP) and peak charging speeds of 400kW, the iX3 can regain more than 350km of range in just 10 minutes. This is enabled by BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive (Gen6) system, which uses high-voltage cylindrical battery cells that offer 20% more energy density than previous designs. The battery also functions as part of the vehicle’s structure, improving both rigidity and overall efficiency.
The new iX3 will be based on BMW’s EV platform from the Vision Neue Klasse X concept
At the core of the Neue Klasse architecture is a network of four high-performance computing units—BMW’s so-called “four superbrains”—that manage everything from powertrain and chassis to infotainment and automated driving. This setup ensures faster processing, smarter system coordination, and seamless integration across functions.
Driving dynamics are taken a step further with the “Heart of Joy” control unit, which unifies powertrain, braking, steering, and energy recuperation for faster and more precise responses.

The iX3 also introduces BMW’s newest driver assistance technologies, managed by the “Superbrain of Automated Driving.” Key features include automated lane changes, cooperative braking, and safe exit alerts—all made possible through a combination of AI and rule-based systems.
Inside, the Panoramic iDrive reimagines the cabin experience. A full-width Panoramic Vision display spans the windshield, replacing the traditional instrument cluster. This is accompanied by a 3D head-up display, a matrix-lit central touchscreen, and a multifunction steering wheel with haptic feedback. All are powered by BMW’s new Operating System X, which supports over-the-air updates and future feature upgrades.

This latest iteration of the iX3 also debuts xDrive all-wheel drive, delivered via a dual-motor setup—replacing the previous rear-wheel-drive-only version. A more efficient single-motor RWD variant is also expected to be offered.
