Nagdhunga Tunnel Reopens Partially Following Road Damage in Naubise-Nagdhunga

The Nagdhunga–Sisnekhola Tunnel has been partially opened to ease traffic after a section of the existing road at Patleban, Nagdhunga, subsided.

The tunnel, Nepal’s first modern road tunnel, had been partially opened in August following its inauguration. With the road disruption, vehicles travelling from Kathmandu towards Muglin are now being diverted through the tunnel.

However, motorcycles and vehicles carrying petroleum products are not allowed through the tunnel. These vehicles are being managed through the damaged section with one-way traffic arrangements.

The Department of Roads said technical assessment of the subsided section will be carried out before repair work begins. Authorities will decide on restoring full traffic movement after assessing the condition of the road.

Meanwhile, traffic movement has also resumed at Parewabhir in Gajuri Rural Municipality-3, Dhading, where a section of the Prithvi Highway was damaged by erosion from the Trishuli River.

A new 100-metre alternative track has been opened at the site, allowing vehicles to pass through the previously blocked section. Police have warned that the temporary route remains risky and motorists should travel with caution.

The Prithvi Highway has faced several disruptions due to flood and landslide damage, including at Krishnabhir. Alternative routes through Narayangadh, Hetauda and Kathmandu are also being used to maintain connectivity.
