The District Administration Office, Chitwan, has announced the complete closure of the Mugling–Narayanghat road section following a massive landslide earlier today. All vehicular movement through this route has been suspended until further notice.
Travelers, transport operators, and the general public are strongly advised to avoid the affected section and instead use alternative routes via Hetauda, Bharatpur, Butwal, Nawalpur, Daunne, Dumkibas, and Trishuli. Authorities have urged passengers to postpone unnecessary travel and remain patient while clearance operations are underway.
Alternative routes
1. Chitwan District - (Kathmandu-bound): Jutpani, Shaktikhor, Mayatar → Malekhu. Note: Accessible only for small vehicles.
2. Dhading District - (Hetauda-bound): Tribhuvan Highway - Naubise → Makwanpur → Hetauda.
3. Makwanpur District - (Kathmandu-bound): Hetauda → Bhimphedi → Kulekhani → Sisneri → Dakshinkali. Note: Vehicles like Toyota Hiace, Scorpios, Sumos and Private Cars can take this route.
4. Makwanpur District: Route for large vehicles (Kathmandu-bound): Kanti Highway - Hetauda → Tistung → Bhattedanda → Lalitpur (via Satdobato → Chapagaun). Note: Suitable for large passenger and cargo vehicles only.
5. Chitwan District: Pokhara-bound vehicles (both small and large): Chitwan → Butwal → Pokhara.
6. Chitwan District: Tanahu-bound vehicles Via Kaligandaki Corridor. From Gaindakot → Palpa → Rampur → Bhimad → Tanahun. Vehicles: Small vehicles only.
The Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and local administration are working together to clear debris and restore traffic movement as quickly as possible.
