MG Motor’s Cyber X is set to transform into a compact, boxy, and family-friendly electric SUV within the next two years.

First showcased as a bold concept at the Shanghai Auto Show, the Cyber X blends angular styling, everyday practicality, and a budget-friendly approach, making it a strong contender in the growing small EV segment.

The production-ready Cyber X will feature a five-door layout and squared-off styling that strikes a balance between modern urban usability and subtle off-road character.

David Allison, MG’s UK product and planning boss, describes the vehicle as a “spiritual successor to the Suzuki Jimny,” offering compact dimensions perfect for city driving while maintaining rugged-inspired design elements.

On the design front, the final model will retain the boxy aesthetic of the concept, with practical revisions such as conventional headlights in place of the concept’s pop-up units. The interior will be minimalistic and modern, featuring a large central touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, and generous headroom and legroom for passengers, making it particularly suitable for family use.

Underneath, the Cyber X is expected to feature MG’s latest battery and motor technologies, including semi-solid-state batteries. A predicted range of around 489 kms is likely, depending on configuration and driving conditions. Most variants will come with a single-motor front-wheel-drive layout, while higher trims may offer all-wheel drive.

MG is aiming to keep the Cyber X affordable, with global prices expected to start below £30,000.
