In a significant step toward strengthening its electrification roadmap in China, Mazda Motor Corporation, through its joint venture in China - Changan Mazda, has established a strategic alliance with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL), the global leader in electric vehicle battery technology.
This collaboration aims to develop a new generation of electric vehicles built on CATL’s cutting-edge CIIC (CATL Integrated Intelligent Chassis) skateboard architecture.
The CIIC platform, introduced by CATL in December 2024, features a modular chassis system that separates the vehicle’s upper body from its lower structure. This decoupled design enables the integration of standardized modules and supports parallel hardware-software development, making it easier to customize and adapt vehicles for various market needs.
By merging CATL’s advanced chassis solutions with Changan Mazda’s automotive manufacturing expertise, both companies aim to speed up product development cycles and deliver NEVs (new energy vehicles) that meet global benchmarks for safety, performance, and reliability.
According to CATL, the partnership demonstrates a shared vision to produce smarter, more efficient NEV offerings while setting a benchmark for faster, modular, and more agile vehicle development in the automotive industry. Changan Mazda and CATL will work jointly on incorporating next-gen NEV technologies, reinforcing Mazda’s growing commitment to the electric vehicle segment in China—a market where the company has traditionally been a late mover.
Mazda recently revealed the EZ-60, its first all-electric SUV, at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show.
