If numbers don’t do it for you, just know this: the G7 is larger than the Toyota Hilux in every dimension. And you feel it. You sit higher, drive taller, and command more presence on the road. We absolutely love the sense of size — though we’ll admit, navigating city traffic in this might be a bit of a chore.
In terms of design, the G7 keeps things clean and functional. Up front, you get clear-lens headlamps that look sharp, and a massive grille with bold FOTON lettering that announces its arrival loud and clear. On the side, it’s all about rugged details — roof rails, a tough metal bar on the bed, and chunky rope hooks on either side that feel ready for actual work. The 265/60 tyres are wrapped around 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels that further elevate the truck’s rugged appeal.
At the rear, the FOTON branding gets even bolder, stretched right across the tailgate, and a small FOTON under it so that people won’t forget it, and it is all flanked by simple, functional taillights that complete the look.
The Tunland G7 doesn’t try to be flashy or futuristic. It looks like a tool — something built to be used, scratched, and worked hard. And honestly, we love that.
Step inside the G7, and it doesn’t scream “workhorse” or “utility truck.”
Instead, what you get is a spacious cabin that feels more like a modern SUV than a bare-bones pickup.
The design is clean and contemporary, with thoughtful touches throughout. Take the seats, for example — both the driver and co-driver get electric adjustments and electric lumbar support, which is a luxury in itself. But it doesn’t stop there: the front seats are also heated and ventilated, a feature you’d typically find only in premium trucks, if at all.
The dashboard features soft-touch materials in all the right places, while the lower sections sensibly use more durable, scratch-resistant plastics. At the center of it all is a crisp 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that’s both smooth and responsive. But what we appreciated most is that Foton didn’t rely solely on the screen — you still get physical buttons for all essential functions like A/C, drive modes, camera views, and more.
Even better, you don’t have to touch the screen at all if you don’t want to. Sitting on the center console is a rotary control knob, perfectly placed beneath your hand when you rest it on the armrest. It allows you to scroll, select, and navigate the infotainment system effortlessly — no need to reach forward or take your eyes off the road.
In the back, the rear bench easily seats three adults, offering plenty of headroom and legroom. And of course, you still get a proper flatbed out back with a 990 kg payload, ready to handle whatever cargo or adventure you throw at it.

The G7 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, producing 160 horsepower and 390 Nm of peak torque. On paper, those numbers might not blow you away — especially in this age of torque-heavy EVs — but in the real world, it’s a different story. The power is delivered smartly, and more importantly, it’s available right where you need it.
All that torque kicks in low in the rev range, so the G7 surges forward with surprising urgency — kind of like one of those bears on National Geographic charging into a river after a salmon. It gets moving quickly and confidently, especially up to 70 km/h, which is more than enough for a truck of this size on roads like ours.
Visibility is excellent, and the 360-degree camera helps a lot in tight spaces — though let’s be honest, city driving in a truck this big is still a chore. It always has been. But outside the city? That’s where the G7 really shines.
Whether you’re cruising highways or tackling rougher terrain, it carries speed with confidence. The suspension setup — double wishbones up front and traditional leaf springs in the rear — soaks up bumps and ruts without complaint. Braking performance is solid too, with enough bite and control to bring this beast to a stop safely when needed.
You also get multiple drive modes, but honestly, we found ourselves sticking to Eco mode. Sport mode tends to hold revs awkwardly long — almost like it’s trying too hard — which gets tiring after a while in a diesel truck. Off-road functionality is made simple with easy-access switches to shift between 4H and 4L. While we didn’t get to do any extreme testing, we used it enough to confidently say: you won’t get stuck when the going gets tough.
To wrap it up — the Foton Tunland G7 brings a lot to the table.
A bold, rugged, and handsome exterior. An interior that doesn’t feel like an afterthought, unlike many traditional work trucks. It’s packed with features — some of which you won’t even find in trucks that cost twice as much. And when it comes to performance, it delivers everything you need without ever feeling underpowered.
