BYD has achieved a major production milestone, announcing that its entry-level electric hatchback—the Seagull—has surpassed one million units since its launch in April 2023.

Built on BYD’s advanced e-Platform 3.0, the Seagull comes equipped with a front-mounted 55 kW electric motor producing 135 Nm of torque. It is powered by a 38.88 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery and supports DC fast charging, enabling a 30% to 80% charge in approximately 30 minutes under standard conditions.

Recently, BYD introduced the Seagull to the European market under the name Dolphin Surf, with several upgrades tailored for the region. The European version is slightly larger, measuring 3,990 mm in length—210 mm longer than its Chinese counterpart—along with a 5 mm increase in width and a 40 mm bump in height. The wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,500 mm.

The Seagull will be available in three variants across Europe. All versions are front-wheel drive, built on the same e-Platform 3.0, and offer a top speed of 150 km/h.

The base trim, called Active features a 30 kWh LFP Blade battery paired with a 65 kW motor, offering a WLTP range of 220 km. For comparison, the entry-level Seagull in China shares the same 30 kWh battery but uses a slightly less powerful 55 kW motor. It delivers a longer 305 km range under the CLTC test cycle.

The Dolphin Surf’s mid and top trims both utilize a larger 43.2 kWh battery, delivering a WLTP range of approximately 310–322 km. The mid-level variant retains the 65 kW motor, while the top-tier version is powered by a more robust 115 kW unit. In contrast, the Seagull sold in China is limited to a maximum motor output of 55 kW.

The Seagull, one of the most anticipated electric vehicles in the Nepalese market, is expected to make its debut at the upcoming NADA Auto Show 2025, further expanding BYD’s global EV footprint.
