Bajaj Auto has completed its €800-million acquisition of KTM after receiving final clearance from European regulators, officially bringing the Austrian motorcycle brand under full Indian ownership.
Through its wholly owned arm, Bajaj Auto International Holdings BV, the company has acquired all shares of Pierer Bajaj AG, securing a 74.9 percent controlling stake in Pierer Mobility AG and KTM AG. This gives Bajaj complete authority over KTM, Husqvarna, and GasGas across global markets.
The takeover marks the peak of a partnership that began in 2007, when Bajaj first bought a small stake in KTM. Over nearly two decades, the relationship transformed both companies—KTM gained scale and access to India’s manufacturing ecosystem, while Bajaj strengthened its position in the global performance motorcycle segment.
The KTM Duke 200’s launch in India in 2012 symbolized the success of this collaboration, creating a new wave of enthusiasts and helping KTM build a strong following across the country.
The acquisition also comes at a time when KTM has been facing financial strain, even pausing MotoGP bike development due to budget issues. Bajaj had already stepped in with additional investment to stabilize operations, and full ownership now allows the company to drive long-term restructuring.
As part of the transition, PBAG will be renamed Bajaj Auto International Holdings AG, and Pierer Mobility AG—listed in Zurich and Vienna—will become Bajaj Mobility AG. Bajaj has also begun reshaping the supervisory and management boards of PBAG, PMAG, and KTM to reflect its strategic direction.
With complete control now secured, Bajaj Auto is positioned to steer KTM’s future product roadmap, global strategy, and technology development. The move strengthens Bajaj’s status as a major international two-wheeler powerhouse and sets the stage for a new era for KTM under Indian leadership.
