Jeep has introduced a new version of its Compass compact SUV, building on a model that has sold over 2.5 million units globally since 2006. The new Compass arrives at a time when the compact SUV segment remains one of the most competitive in Europe, making up nearly a quarter of total passenger vehicle sales in the region.
Jeep saw steady growth in 2024, selling 132,000 units in Europe. The Jeep Avenger contributed heavily to this number, accounting for 80,000 units. The brand also expanded its presence outside Italy, with sales in markets like the UK, France, and the Netherlands showing significant year-over-year increases.
The updated Compass is built on Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform, which is designed to support electric and hybrid drivetrains. The vehicle has been developed by engineering teams in both Europe and the U.S., with input from across the globe. The features include increased ground clearance, off-road driving capabilities, and several safety enhancements, such as a repositioned radar for better obstacle protection.
The SUV will be available in six exterior colors inspired by various global landscapes. The colours are named after Hawaii, the Pacific Ocean, Antarctica, the Amazon rainforest, Yosemite National Park, and Sicily’s Vulcano Island.
Off-road specs for the Compass include a ground clearance of up to 200mm and angles designed for navigating rough terrain. A Selec-Terrain system comes standard across all variants, while all-wheel-drive models offer even more capability with features like hill descent control and improved water fording.
Inside, the new Compass gains more space and improved flexibility. It now offers an additional 55mm of rear legroom, expanded cargo space of up to 550 liters, and new storage options throughout the cabin. A 40/20/40 split rear seat comes standard.
The vehicle also includes upgraded technology with a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 16-inch infotainment display. Over-the-air updates, Level 2 autonomous driving, and optional features like a head-up display and Matrix LED lighting are part of the package.
In terms of powertrains, customers will have a choice between a 145 hp mild hybrid, a 195 hp plug-in hybrid, and three fully electric versions. The all-wheel-drive BEV version offers 375 hp thanks to a new rear electric motor developed specifically for Jeep. The BEV lineup includes fast-charging capabilities and an estimated range of up to 650km.
A limited-run First Edition of the new Compass will be offered at launch. It includes either the 145 hp hybrid or 213 hp BEV setup, along with features such as heated seats, Level 2 driver assistance, parking sensors, and additional comfort options.
The next-gen Compass isn’t coming to India or our market. Sources say the STLA Medium platform didn’t make commercial sense for India, so Stellantis had to drop the plan.
