India Yamaha Motor (IYM) Pvt Ltd has celebrated a significant achievement with its iconic Yamaha R15, which has now reached a remarkable production milestone of 1 million units.
Since its debut in 2008, the R15 has set new standards in the performance motorcycle segment, blending an iconic design with racing-inspired engineering. Over the past 16 years, the model has consistently grown in popularity, with its production numbers rising to meet increasing demand.
As the demand for premium motorcycles grows, IYM has focused on the Indian market, where over 90% of the R15 units have been sold. The model has also been instrumental in establishing Yamaha as a prominent export hub for new products, further expanding its global footprint.
The R15 has redefined the supersport motorcycle segment in India with each new generation. Its 2008 launch introduced advanced features such as a liquid-cooled engine, DiASil Cylinder, and Deltabox frame, setting new performance and handling standards.
The 2011 R15 V2.0 brought improved agility with an aluminium swingarm and sportier styling, while the R15 S prioritized rider comfort. In 2018, the R15 V3 upgraded to a 155cc VVA engine, an Assist & Slipper Clutch, and premium features like inverted forks and LED lighting. The latest R15 V4 offers enhanced features such as traction control, a quick shifter, and an aerodynamic redesign.
