BYD has achieved a major production milestone with the rollout of its 13 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV)—a Yangwang U7, a luxury sedan from its high-end sub-brand Yangwang. This accomplishment comes just eight months after the automaker reached the 10 million mark, underscoring the rapid acceleration of its NEV production.

The journey toward this achievement began on May 19, 2021, when BYD became the first Chinese carmaker to produce one million NEVs. In March 2022, the company took a bold step by ending the production and sales of vehicles powered solely by internal combustion engines, pivoting entirely to plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric (BEV) models.

BYD’s 5 millionth NEV milestone was reached on August 9, 2023, with the production of the N7 SUV under its premium sub-brand Denza. Just over a year later, on November 18, 2024, the 10 millionth unit—a Denza Z9 sedan—rolled off the line.

As demand continues to grow, especially in the mainstream market, BYD is now placing greater emphasis on the premium segment. The Yangwang brand, which represents the pinnacle of luxury within BYD’s portfolio, plays a central role in this strategy.

This latest milestone highlights BYD's rapid growth and evolving ambitions as it strengthens its leadership in the global NEV market.
